Short Bio

Ichiro Fujinaga is an Associate Professor in Music Technology Area at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. He has Bachelor's degrees in Music/Percussion and Mathematics from University of Alberta, and a Master's degree in Music Theory, and a Ph.D. in Music Technology from McGill University. Research interests include music theory, machine learning, music perception, optical music recognition, digital signal processing, genetic algorithms, and music information acquisition, preservation, and retrieval.

I'm in Montreal. I'm a member of the McGill Digital Humanities Steering Committee and I want to promote the value of Linked Open Data in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Music Libraries.

Linked Open Data Projects

Digital Prosopography Project, which involves study of groups of people, mostly, in the past. It means semi-automatically building an online biographical database on the web based on RDF.
This project aims to create a framework that can answer questions not easily answered by Google-like search or traditional means. For example, “Did composer A and composer B live in Rome in 1543? Did composer A and composer B work with composer C? Were there singers/instrumentalists working in Rome from 1540–1545 who performed music by both of these composers?
We've applied for NEH Digital Humanities Start-up Grants (results in March 2013). I've given a talk at the Renaissance Society of America Annual Meeting, Washington, DC. 24 March 2012. Digital prosopography of Renaissance musicians: Discovery of social and professional network, with S. Weiss.
